Google Reader - Stop visiting multiple sites to keep track of industry news. Instead, let Google Reader check your favorite news sites and blogs for new content and aggregate it in one place. Make sure you have Gears installed so that you can read updates in offline mode as well.
Snackr - An RSS ticker that pulls random items from your feeds and scrolls them across your desktop. When you see a title that looks interesting, you can click on it to pop up the item in a window.

Docs, Spreadsheets & Presentations
Google Docs - Google's free web-based word processor, presentation software, spreadsheet application (and form creator), which allows you to share and collaborate online. Currently, it is the best alternative to Microsoft Office. Make sure you have Gears installed so that you can work on your docs in offline mode as well.
InstaCalc - Faster than Calc and easier than Excel, this is a mix of a calculator and a spreadsheet app. It also supports unit conversion and the ability to embed calculations in web pages while maintaining the interactivity.
Screen Toaster - An online service that allows you to record on-screen activity without downloading any software. The recorded video clip is of good quality and is auto-uploaded to the Internet.
Scribd - The YouTube of documents. Loads of great books and papers can be found on Scribd.
SlideRocket - An online presentation software that lets you make stunning presentations manage a library of slides and assets, share them securely with colleagues, and measure how they're used.
SlideShare - The YouTube of presentations. Loads of useful presentations that you'd find here. Also, do check out the section on the world's best presentations.
Zamzar - An online service that can convert documents and presentations (and images, videos and audio as well) from one format to another without downloading software.
Zoho - Zoho provides productivity and collaboration apps as well as business apps. Zoho Writer, Zoho Sheet, and Zoho Show are an excellent alternative to MS Office and Google Apps. Moreover, Zoho has been built by an Indian company - AdventNet.

File Storage & Syncing
Box.net - Subscription-based service that allows you to manually upload documents, pictures and other files via the browser so that they are accessible from any other computer or web-enabled mobile phone.
Dropbox - Dropbox is a file storage, syncing and collaboartion tool. It installs as a folder on your computer (with 2 GB capacity in the free version) that gives you access to the latest version of your files from any computer.
Live Mesh - Like Dropbox, Mesh is a service for people who work across computers. On top of this cloud storage system, Mesh also offers remote desktop capabilities with copy-paste support.
Skydrive - Microsoft's online storage service (much like Box.net) that lets you store files, photos and documents forever for free. You get 25 GB of storage space and the size limit per file is 50 MB.
